The scimitar oryx, also know as the Sahara oryx originated in North Africa. Having gone extinct in the wild in 2000, the species lives on in part by ranches like Buck Horn Ranch and others across Texas.

Featuring sweeping horns and a white colored oryx with light orange to reddish neck and chest, the scimitar oryx is a beautiful animal. It’s believed that the myth of a unicorn was based off the sighting of a one-horned scimitar oryx.

The horns of the male scimitar oryx can grow beyond 50 inches but average around 40 inches.

With a year-round season, the Buck Horn Ranch accommodates scimitar oryx hunts by rifle, bow, crossbow, pistol, and black powder.  We have strategically placed tent blinds and tripods for close range shots.  Our year-round feed program and food plots ensure a successful hunt.
